- 2014 Cédric Chignard Fleurie Les Moriers - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie (10/18/2015)
My first taste of 2014 Beaujolais and it was terrific. Very expressive aromatics right from the start. Light red fruits. Cranberry and strawberry. With a dusty earth element. I really love the smell of this wine. The palate follows suit in a more subdued manner. Light bodied and showing a good amount of tannin without the tannin hiding too much. Continued to open up as the night went on but kept the structured feel. I'll wait a little while on the next bottle. Had over two nights:
The nose was a little vacant. Sometimes I really didn't get anything. With coaxing there is black cherry and a bit of stewed tomatoes. The nose shows some age. My favorite part of this wine was the mid palate which was juicy fresh fruit. Cherries and a bit of cream. Not showing much structure. Some heat. (87 pts.) - 2005 Anthill Farms Pinot Noir Peters Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (10/18/2015)
Ripe cherry and cranberry on the nose. Nice but not too compelling. Right at the front there is some nice fruit. Cherry and some strawberry but then it really puts on weight and shows darker fruit. And then it falls off the cliff. The finish is muddled and dirty. Overripe fruit and heat. Parts of this I really liked but it is incomplete. The finish lost me. (85 pts.)
Cheers,
