2012 Rhys Pinot Noir San Mateo County - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, San Mateo County (10/12/2015)
Over the last year or so I have been through 7 375ml bottles of this wine. Some have been excellent, while others showed a bit more monolithic. Last night's bottle was the first one that kicked in with that extra gear, adding layers of complexity to go along with the still exuberant red fruit. Herbs, flowers, earth and smoke all showed up in the aromatics, and the palate presence was significantly more interesting than any past bottle of the wine. Over the 2 hours I had it the wine continued to open up and become even more expressive. It's time to let the rest of my halves sit for a while, and allow this development curve to move forward.
Yeah, right. That's not going to happen.
