WTN: Cellar surprise

by David M. Bueker » Sun Oct 11, 2015 1:25 pm

1996 Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Fiacre - France, Champagne (10/10/2015)
Big surprise when I found a bottle of this wine in the cellar yesterday. I thought all mine had been gone for years. Our dinner was going to be fairly Champagne friendly, so I stuck it in the fridge.

What a treat it turned out to be. Highlighted by a clear aroma of wheat toast, the wine was in a perfect place. Some apple fruit and baking spice notes were in there as well, and overall the wine drank very well. I wish I had more, as I would put it in the fridge today and drink it tonight.

I was really impressed by a bottle in January, 2013 and would guess a plateau of excellent drinking.

Love it when that happens!
