For those who don't know Tom*, he is an American author and wine writer who lives part of the year in Bordeaux, is a water engineer who has worked in some of the world's most inhospitable places and written engaging books about those experiences and has a masterly book about his experiences** in followingthe Missouri River from St Louis all the way to the sea, following the Lewis and Clark Expeditions trail
