Tried these two from the Z-H box in my orphan stash:
1. Dom.Zind-Humbrecht GWT AGC: Goldert/Gueberschwihr (14%) Turckheim 1993: Deep golden/burnished bronze color; some nutmeg/cinammon/oldGWT slight aldyhidic/oxidized/nutty/sauerkraut slight lychee/GWT bit alcoholic rather complex nose; soft/fat/lush some bitter/aldehydic rather cinammon/nutmeg/oldGWT/sauerkraut complex flavor w/ strong bitterness; very long soft/fat/ripe/porky some nutty/aldehydic some nutmeg/cinammon/oldGWT complex finish w/ strong bitterness; a fat/porky GWT that has not done as well as some of the others; some interesting/pleasurable oldGWT character therein but a bit to aldehydic and very bitter on the palate.
$26.60

2. Dom.Zind-Humbrecht Tokay PinotGris Heimberg/Turckhein AC: A (14%) 1993: Deep golden color; very strong floral/PG/mango/orange bit smokey/nutmeg/tobaccoy quite perfumed/complex nose w/ no signs of aldehyde or oxidation; soft/rich/lush/mouthfilling/fat slight alcoholic strong mango/PG/floral/orange bit smokey/nutmeg rather off-dry (.8%-1%?) complex flavor w/ trace of bitterness; very long/lingering PG/mango/tangerine/floral/honeyed bit smokey/tobaccoy soft/rich/fat/lush off-dry complex finish w/ very slight bitterness that is counterbalanced by the RS; a beautiful cocktail PG but would be tough to match w/ Alsatian food. $32.10

A wee BloodyPulpit:
As I said the other day, I repeat:
2. I've long decried the effect Z-H has had on traditional Alsace wine because of their alcohol/low acid/RS and the huge scores they get out of Monktown. I've long contended that those wines are not going to age very well. Well....this wine (#2) may make me have to rethink that viewpoint. Maybe one that was stored in pristine conditions would not be as complex & lovely as this one. Dang it....I hate it when new data forces me to rethink something I "know" to be true.

3. This morning (standing upright on the counter w/ a stopper and 1/3'rd the wine remaining), the Tokay had lost quite a bit of its aromatics and showed a bit aldehydic...not nearly so good. Went well enough w/ my CocoaPuffs.
