WTN: Cornelissen Contadino '13...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Sep 01, 2015 12:32 pm

Tried this back in KC:
1. Contadino IGT Terre Siciliane Rosso (11'thEdition; EB; 13.5%; Nerello Mascalese 85%, Nerello Capuccio, Minella Nera, Allicante Bouschet, Minella Bianco) FrankCornelissen/Solicchiata/Etna/Sicilia 2013: Med.dark color; rather grapey/DrPepper/earthy/dusty somewhat unclean/goat pen/hot-climate rather funky/fusty bit interesting nose; bit spritzy quite earthy/dusty/loamy grapey/Nehi grape soda rather unclean/fusty/goat pen bit fecal/diaper pail soft/sour flavor w/ light gentle tannins; med.long slight spritzy grapey/Nehi grape soda rather unclean/fecal/diaper pail/goat pen earthy/fusty finish w/ light tannins; way too unclean for my tastes. $30.00 (Gom/MT)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Thought I'd give this FrankCornelissen red a try when I crossed upon it at Gomer's. This is a "natural" wine made w/ no interventions, no SO2. He is one of SweetAlice's darlings and one of grand poobahs of the "natural" wine movement. I really wanted to like this wine. The highest praise I could give it is "interesting". It was way too unclean for my tastes and after drinking half the btl, I decided it was giving me no pleasure, either intellectual or sensual...so down the drain it went. Maybe those MonktownAttourneys are right about "natural" wines??

Well....there are natural winemakers who look like they are sleeping in the ditch by the road, and they may make wines like this.

There are others I like. Beaujolais?

Well, Brian.....I don't drink much Bojo except SteveEdmund's. But I've had plenty of "natural" (by whatever definition
you choose) wines that I liked. But I think the Cornelissen's are a bit risky for me.

I experimented on some friends with a bottle once. They are usually pretty adventurous (they will drink donkey & Goat0, but not in this case.....

Well, Oliver. My bedroom window was about 50 ft from the Utter's goat pen. I know goats well.
The smell on a hot July night w/ the window wide open was....distinktive.
Diaper pail I also know well. They were in cloth diapers and you had this vinyl pail of water & Clorex
that you'd soak the dirty diapers in. When you would empty out the diaper pail, it had a very distinctive smell.
By the time your's came along, cloth diapers were a thing of the past...just disposable diapers by then.
You missed out on that smell!!
Still making appts w/ some of your wineries for our Italy trip.
