WTN: Two unsophisticated Italian reds

2014 Villa Ligi Pergola Vernaculum Rosso, Marches, Umbria, Italy D.O.C. wine.
Aleatico grapes. Labeled as 12% abv. Purchased after a tasting of Italian wines at a retailer in Raleigh. Although a red wine, it drinks more as a rose'. Pale red or ruby color; semi-opaque. Pleasant aroma of cherries and plums. Very "bright" tasting with a lifted note. This is a lively, fun wine that could liven up a summer patio party or picnic--nothing complex but an easy quaffer. Fits into the July focus theme of summer reds.

2009 Villa Pozzi Nero d'Avola, Sicily, Italy. Labeled as 13.5% abv. Darkly colored and opaque. This drinks as a robust wine, perhaps a bit rustic. Deep fruit flavors with a resemblance to plumskin. It shows some accompanying mild tannins felt on the underside of the tongue. Strong aromas. Went okay with ham.
