It's a famous name but this is still the first time I tried this producer (that I can remember) so I have no idea what style this producer goes for. 12,5% abv so I was expecting a dry, powerful Riesling instead of a sweet, delicate one.
The first shock is the scent: it's more like a sweet wine with plenty of marmalade and such aromas that suggest botrytis. In fact these aromas are so strong that they overpower any Riesling-aromas.
The palate is dry, full-bodied, rich, powerful, add a couple more synonyms dealing with the idea of power, acidic and kind of seems like an invertebrate about to moult: it feels too tight in its current exoskeleton and just wants to get rid of the tight old skin and stretch out and be a bit bigger.
Interesting for sure, but the aroma's sweetness and the palate's power makes me wonder if this might be a hypothetical Beerenauselese trocken! It is an interesting wine for sure, but frankly so concentrated that I have most of it left for tomorrow. And the day after. And a couple more.

A sample size of one isn't terribly representative so I'll ask: What is the producer's style? Is this a freak in their line-up? Was this a strange year?
