2010 Tercero Grenache Larner Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (8/23/2015)
I start this note by saying I have been skeptical of Grenache for varietal wine in California. I have generally found them limp and lifeless, with more heat than light. This wine very well convince me otherwise. It shows rich berry fruit as well as herbal and floral accents that provide complexity and overall interest. It's medium weight, and so carries refreshment value. I love the finish, as the non-fruit elements take the focus, and a round, creamy feel comes in on the back end. There is even a touch of tannin, so short to medium term cellaring can work. Lovely drink for now and the next several years.
