Gift for my friend in Scotland

by matthew.delaney » Fri Aug 21, 2015 2:22 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to have a package delivered to my friend who is currently in Glasgow. I wanted to ship some wine to him.
I'm not sure how many of the users on these forums are foreign, but I thought I'd give it a shot by posting in here. Has anyone ever used this UK-based site?

http://exelwines.co.uk/

I've done a "beer of the month" type thing here in the U.S and it was a decent deal, but I really don't want to spend a lot of money on something that isn't legitimate.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

Matthew,
sorry this is mostly US though there are a few UK posters. My stepson went to school in Scotland, but only wine shop I know is Luvians in St Andrews, and don't know if they ship. You might try Tom Cannavan's (sp?) UK wine and spirits board.
Or you could just go with a reputable London shop like Berry Bros and Rudd, they ship throughout UK

I'm not foreign, I'm English.

I've never heard of Exel wines, but they look to be legit.

Their wine list is truly amazing but it looks as if they don't stock all the wines they list.

There are somel internet sellers who don't hold stocks but source from others when they get orders.

THere's an old (2010) thread on the UK wine forum from some individul who sold wines to them and got paid promptly, but another who was having delay in getting a wine order delivered to him.

As I say, I have no personal knowledge of this business.

I have bought wines from Edinburgh based 'Great Grog' wines and can recommend them http://www.greatgrog.co.uk/

Also Majestic is a reliable national chain I can recommend with three shops in Glasgow and they deliver free from their nearest shop - https://www.majestic.co.uk/stores/Scotland.

I have bought from them on numerous occasions without any trouble.
