HB to SteveEdmunds

by TomHill » Wed Aug 19, 2015 7:58 am

Today's the day. Turns #68. The good news is that he's getting older at a faster rate (.0147%) than I (.0139%). The good news is that he'll soon catch up w/ me!! Do the math.
Have a great BD today, Steve.

Spoken like a rocket scientist, Tom! :D I intend to spend my birthday like a winemaker, again...
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Happy birthday to my fellow birthday buddy!" Have a great day! Don't work too hard!

BTW the 2004 Rocks and Gravel was singing on Saturday during MoCool. The 2009 was still tight as a nun's ..... Thank you for making such delicious wines!

Agree on the 04 R&G, but didn't think the 09 was all that tight. Of course the 14 vintage vertical of Beaucastel may have jarred my palate a bit.

On the other hand, the 2000 Los Robles Viejos was wonderful. I was happy to sacrifice my last bottle of this wine to Bacchus at MoCool. This was the first ESJ I ever tasted and I've had various ESJ wines around ever since.

Happy Birthday Steve, may you celebrate many more (and keep making wine)!

Doug,
Thanks for chiming in. I loved all three of the ESJ's but it was clear that the 2009 was too young, especially in that crowd. I would compare Steve's wines more to the Northern Rhones we had, especially the Cornas and the Hermitages. The CdP were much more elegant and of course the Cote-Rotie were in their own little universe. A great weekend!

Happy Birthday to both of you.
I remember attending Steve's sixtieth in Berkeley and being investigated by the federal govt. under the guise of the Patriot act for two years following.
