A friend of mine was recently appointed Honorary Consul General of Ethiopia in the Philippines. At a lunch to celebrate, he produced a bottle of of Ethiopian wine. Rift Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 - I did a WSET style breakdown of the wine. Clear, medium ruby. On the nose, clean, medium (-) intensity. Youthful, red fruit, raspberry, strawberry, a touch of blackcurrant and a whiff of smoke. On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium(-) tannins, medium alcohol, medium(-) body, medium (-) intensity. The palate confirms the characteristics on the nose. Primarily red berry, strawberry and raspberry, juicy, light, more like a relatively simple pinot noir or perhaps beaujolais than a cabernet. Not very complex, but still, a rather pleasant drink. Acceptable quality. A wine for drinking now and not meant for aging.
I still can't seem to post pictures but here's a link to the Flickr image.
