Lookin for a PETILLANT NATUREL wine

by marc.green » Sat Aug 01, 2015 2:39 pm

Hi, I am new to this forum.

I am a big fan of Proseco and Cava sparkling wines and have been reading about Pet-Nat wines, but I am having a time trying to locate a bottle or anyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that know anything about it.

I have been to several of my local big chain liquor/wine stores, but the wine experts I ask do not seem to know what I am talking about. I thought maybe I am looking in the work section (sparkling wines) and maybe just asking the incorrect questions.

I think I need to ask for a couple of specific bottles instead of the method. If you good folks could give a couple of bottle names, I will try that next time I go to store.

Thank You
Marc

The problem is that most are small production, and tend to be in more boutique shops. Is there a store in DFW area that pushes "natural" wines?

Last 2 pet nats I've have were both Loires, La Lunotte “Bulotte” and Breton “La Ritournelle”. I've also liked the Pepiere Pepie Bulles and one from Puzelat-Bonhomme.

I know there are some domestic pet nats, but no names come to mind

Can you order from out of state? A place like Chambers St Wines in NYC will have a selection.

Hi Marc and welcome to WLDG!

“Petillant Naturel” is not the method or process used to produce the wine. It is a description of the wine- “naturally mildly sparkling”. The method used to produce the wine is known as “Methode Ancestrale” (“Ancient Method”). Unlike “Methode Champenoise” where the bubbles are the result of a “forced or controlled" secondary fermentation. The bubbles in a wine produced using the “Methode Ancestrale” are the result of an “uncompleted or unfinished” primary fermentation.
