Chateau Haut Bages Liberal 2000

by Glenn Mackles » Fri Jul 24, 2015 10:34 am

Chateau Haut Bages Liberal Pauillac 2000.

One of the very best bottles of the year so far. Classic bordeaux. It was clearly ready to drink. When I took off the capsule there was liquid drop of wine on top of the cork. And the cork was soft causing me to fear the worst. It took a bit of effort to get the cork out successfully but once done the wine was not only still alive but delicious. Very fruity, all tannins resolved, not a hint of bitterness. There was lots of sediment in the bottom of the bottle but a coffee filter allowed me to save every drop. My wife and I savored it over 2 nights and we wish we had more.

Best wishes

Nice.

At 15 years old, perhaps some of the 2000s are coming into their own.

You are lucky, Glenn. The 2000 Liberal that I purchased was outstanding from about '05 through '10+. The last one I had in late 2013 was stone cold dead. :(
