WTN: 2013 Turasan Emir - Turkey, Ankara, Cappadocia

2013 Turasan Emir - Turkey, Ankara, Cappadocia (7/23/2015)
My first Turkish wine. The Emir grape is only found in a small part of Turkey. The winery has a good data sheet: http://vinorai.com/wp-content/uploads/2 ... hsheet.pdf
Agglomerate cork. Nose is mild, grassy. Good acidity, slight licorice finish. Dry. While I question the value for $17 (on Amazon) the overall impression is of a wine that I'd welcome to my table any time. It hasn't been tarted up with oak, thank goodness. Good+.

2013 Turasan Kalecik Karası - Turkey, Central Anatolia, Cappadocia (8/4/2015)
The Kalecik Karası grape doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it? Surprisingly to me, it's a winner. Tasting something like a cross between cabernet franc and pinot noir, there's attractive cranberry and herbal qualities, but lightness in body and texture give it a lot of poise. I am shocked that wine like this can come from a region I've never heard of. An excellent match with salmon burgers, and a good value to boot (available on Amazon.com). Very Good+.

Thank you! I'm collecting wines for a tasting themed "They make wine there?" and these will be perfect for that. Did you actually buy them on Amazon?

Yep, painless. You can mix and match between the 16 different Turkish wines available from Threshold Wine Company. I picked the Turasan based on this favorable note from David Honig. However, I still have four other wines to taste, so I'll keep posting.

Thanks. I'd have honestly never considered shopping for wine on Amazon.

Well, it's not really like buying from Amazon. The shipping fee is per retailer/winery, so you can't consolidate except within that store. And of course the prices are typical wine shipping prices, no Prime here. Payment is Amazon's usual excellent way, though.
