WTN: 2008 Rhys Pinot Noir Family Farm

by Diane (Long Island) » Wed Jul 22, 2015 7:13 pm

I've said it before, I am not the biggest fan of Family Farm, but this one is approaching maturity and has some nice things going on. Start with the aromatics - dark berries, a little toasty, a little floral, and minerality. Quite pretty. I don't like the taste as much. There are berries, but there is a stewed tomato aspect that Is a problem for me. Acidity is good and tannins are soft. I think it would pair nicely with a sweetish berry sauce, but that isn't what we had. This was the last of three bottles, and this was the best one.

I think we are starting to see some of the Rhys wines come into their own.

I have had this wine 4 or 5 times and never noted a stewed tomato note. Different strokes and all.
