Thomas Coyne dead at 74

I didn't see a topic on this, but Livermore winemaker Thomas Coyne died last month.

The Livermore Valley and Contra Costa winemaking communities are mourning the loss of Thomas Coyne, founder of the Thomas Coyne Winery, who died June 19 at age 74. The winery's future has not yet been decided, but the tasting room remains open. Coyne was known for the wines he made from lesser-known varietals, especially Rhone varietals, such as viognier, grenache and syrah, and his mentorship of up-and-coming vintners.

Coyne was a chemist who found his second calling as a winemaker (probably the only small winery on earth with not one, but two spectrophotometers) and helped usher in the modern era of craft winemaking in Livermore. It seemed like he made a barrel of everything!

So sorry to hear this. Thanks for the link, Walt.
I first met him long ago. He was the asst winemaker at Rosenblum w/ Kent which is probably where I met him.
Made his first wines there at Kent's. We crossed paths several more times after that at his wnry in Livermore.
Then sorta lost track/interest in what he was doing. They were pouring a TourigaNacional at the tasting room one time
that I liked a lot. I wanted to buy a btl but the lady pouring insisted it was only for sale to club members. So I walked
away & never returned.
