TrinityShot
Means little to most folks, but a pretty big day for LosAlamos folks.
JackAeby (who I met several times over the yrs) took the only photograph of Trinity. Jack died earlier this year at 91. The quality of the photograph is not very good, so I suspect he took it on his Kodak Brownie or the camera on his Apple iPad.
Had a long talk Sun w/ JohnBalagna about him driving from LosAlamos down to SandiaPeak about 4:00am, where they had a direct view of TrinitySite to the South. He related that when the sky lit up (about 80 miles South) at 5:30am, there was a loud series of gasps & wows from the dozens of other ManhattanProject folks there on the peak. Not any cheering or celebrating...just a lot of folks in awe of what they had created. It was a special time in history and John made it come alive. I was 3 yrs old that day and already posting TN's on milk and Pablum to the InterNet.
What to drink Thursday?? My obvious choice would be a BalagnaWnry LaBombaGrande (a label that is being resurrected by a friend) that was created to celebrate the 50'th Anniv of Trinity. But the wine is dead & gone and my last btl I gave to John last Fall. So I guess my 2'nd choice will have to be the K-Vintners Boom-Boom Syrah.
Actually, at 5:30 am, I'll be in my car headed down to the ABQ airport, headed for OAK. Some of us closing down BayWolf that night and I suspect we'll drink very well indeed.

1. MeyersDairy Homogenized Milk (3% milkfat; squeezed from a cow teat 6 days prior) Iola/KS 1945: Pale white color w/ no signs of bricking; slightly lactic/milky/Jersey cow slightly earthy/oldCow nose greatly impeded by the nipple; soft/rich/lush quite lactic/milky/mouthfilling slight herbal/clover hints from AppleGate Farm clover field where these Jersey cows grazed; very long rich/lush quite lactic/milky/creamy bit high butterfat/buttery slight grassy/clover finish that went on & on as it dribbled down my chin onto my diaper. A good milk that lacks complexity. $2.49/quart bottle

1. This was a pretty good milk for a July 12 harvest. It was not as good as the PetMilkCompany canned/condensed milk that I had a few days earlier, but that had distinct metallic flavor and a very heavy body. And this didn't hold a candle to my Mom's milk.
