I'm always interested in tasting new grapes. Groppello is a native red grape of Lombardy. This wine is in the cheap and cheerful category but is still an attractive wine. 18€ in Finland so probably 10€ elsewhere!

The scent is quite fruity but cool with plenty of fresh berry aromas more in the blue end of the spectrum. Some herbaceous bitterness brings a nice edge to the fruit. Fairly light in body but with attractive bitterness and enough acidity to keep it moreish. It is a little reminiscent of a good Valpolicella yet different enough to be interesting.
I obviously can't say if this is representative of the grape but it did seem like a fun little wine with a bit of unique personality and I certainly wouldn't mind tasting a couple other Groppellos now. Suggestions as to which are good?
