WTN: WildHog Zin '97..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Jul 08, 2015 12:14 pm

After two Franus Zins '91 from my orphan stash, this one came thru:
1. WildHogVnyd Zin Estate/SonomaCoast (Organically Grown grapes; 15.2%) Cazadero 1997: Med.dark color w/ some bricking; quite peppery/raspberry/blackberry/cranberry/cold-climate Zin/black pepper very spicy some vanilla/Am.oak/smokey fairly complex nose; rather tart/tangy quite cranberry/raspberry/c-c Zin/black pepper rather cedary/pencilly/oldZin complex flavor w/ light smooth bit tangy tannins; very long/lingering quite tart bright/cranberry/raspberry/very spicy/Zin/black pepper bit licorice/earthy some Am.oak/smokey complex finish w/ light/gentle tannins; no signs of alcohol and the acidity probably carried the day.$16.00

And a wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This is Dan Schoenfeld's wine from out in the FtRoss-Seaview. This is probably now the coldest-climate Zin vnyd in Calif, now that the LaFond Zin was pulled. It reminds me a lot of the old SeaRidge Occidental Zin, of which I still have a few more. This is how Nathan&Duncan would make Zin at A-R if they could. Quite an interesting rendition of Zin. I notice that Dan also makes Syrah from his Estate, 5 miles from the Pacific. I've not tried it, though.
