WTN: 2001 Christoffel Spatlese

by David M. Bueker » Sun Jul 05, 2015 8:01 pm

2001 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (7/5/2015)
This took 24 hours before it opened up at all. When it did there were fireworks. Still amazingly youthful, showing berry, lime and peach fruit with a dusting of cinnamon spice. It's impressive how unevolved this is. The mid-palate intensity is off the charts, and carries right through the finish. I am very impressed, though I am beginning to wonder when these Christoffel Spatlese and Auslese wines from 2001 will begin to develop a few signs of maturity.
