Passing of an Era: BayWolf Closing

by TomHill » Tue Jun 30, 2015 7:00 pm

Just saw this in the SFChron:
BayWolfClosing

Truly an end of an era. BayWolf has always been one of my favorite restaurants in the Bay area. Many a long afternoon having lunch out on the deck w/ SteveEdmunds & OliverMcCrum. There was wine involved.

Our WoodshedRhones dinner there in March was one of the greatest wine events I've attended. There was wine involved.

I attended an AuBonClimate/Qupe special dinner there yrs ago. That's when I got to meet & visit w/ GeraldAsher. A true (British) gentleman and a wine writer the likes has become very/very rare. There was wine involved.

Anyway...truly sad and an institution that is irreplaceable.

Nothing lasts forever, but somehow certain things you think will be permanent.

It is a sad moment, though coupled with Bob Henrick's passing, it pales by comparison. I had many friends who passed through the kitchens there, including several who ended up as executive chef there. It was truly an institution, in the best sense of the word, and could be counted on for a good meal, if not always a transcendent one.
