Need help on a NYC restaurant

by wrcstl » Wed Dec 27, 2006 9:17 pm

I have cross posted this on the food forum. My daughter's husband is graduating from NY University law school with a masters in tax law. She wants to have a lunch (because it is assumed to be less than a dinner) to celebrate. There will be about 15 people and she would like it to be no more than $75 per. Looking for a memorable event with wine. It would be great if we could bring our own wine as I would spring for that part of the meal. Appreciate any comments from the knowledgable NYC forum people. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest The River Cafe under the brooklyn bridge in Dumbo. It has the most amazing view of the city, a lunch that falls within that price range and comfortable space for that many people. It's also the perfect place to slap yourself on the back for a job well-done. If you want to take bottles, call and speak to the Wine Director in advance--for lunch, it should be no problem.

Walt, I concur with Jennifer's suggestion -- there is a great wine list at the River Cafe, reasonably priced. This was one of the restaurants I had as a fall back if you didn't care for the Union League Club idea.

Jennifer, welcome to WLDG. I've enjoyed following the establishment of the Sommelier Forum and wish you well with it. Hope you stick around and post some more here.

Regards, Bob

Bob,

Not too much to follow there yet, but we're working on it. Warm regards,

Pretty site, though, and the Burgundy article is a good intro to a vast area.

As Jennifer writes, it's very early days, but it shows promise to me: http://www.sommelierforum.com/masthead.html

I can also recommend 11 Madison Park. Excellent wines and food. Good prices, and they are also very accomodating to large groups.

I don't know what the problem is, Bob. I just clicked on the link and it worked fine.

Another idea: go to Google and search on

"Jennifer Calvert" wine

I vaguely remembered Jennifer's name from the time (or perhaps her husband) worked at the River Cafe, and found the site originally that way.

Regards, Bob
