Sunday Betsy got home, for Father’s Day we had lobsters and baked squash blossoms stuffed with herbed ricotta.
NV Bremont Cuvee Prestige” Grand Cru Champagne . Big, with aromas of bread, apples, and lemon zest, good acids, dosage showing a bit more than I remember. Lovely and balanced. B+
2011 Matrot Meursault-Blagny
Fairly big and ripe, but with a tangy citric acid note. B
Monday was pasta with a lemony garlic scape and mushroom sauce; wine was the 2012 Garnier “Montmains” Chablis 1er. I liked this a bit more than a recent Mont de Milieu- this has both body and an acid backbone, not classic but good for $20. B/B+
Tuesday Betsy made roast chicken over herb salad, barley, and I opened the 2014 Bart Marsannay rose. Good acids, red fruit with orange zest, a little spice. B/B+
Wednesday we were going to our regular outdoor picnic & concert, where a friend’s jazz quartet was headlining. My brother was working in CT and had a free night, so he Ubered over and his daughter came up from city. Betsy made a cuke/melon soup with crabmeat, tomato and avocado, we also had smoked duck, caprese, cheeses, and more.
1991 Niellon “Vergers” Chassagne-Montrachet 1er
As my niece was there, seemed like a good opportunity to open a birthyear wine for her. White fruits with an accent of hazelnut and lemon zest. Fresh, good acids, full. Showing very well. A-/B+
2014 Bedrock “Ode to Lulu” rose
Good body, crunchy wild berry fruit and earth, nice length. Good ripeness, but plenty of acid./ B+
2013 L’Olivier Muscadet
This is not Pepiere! A bit dilute, a bit clipped, not much here. C+
Last night was my first night to try my father’s day present, a new grill, and I did some skirt steak. With bok choy, caprese, and rice/barley, the 2011 Faury St Joseph, Smoke, pepper, and dark berry fruit. With time more floral. Supple tannins, good length, easy to drink. B+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
