1. According to Carole:
Carole wrote:The name comes from the town of Gretna Green in southern Scotland, very close to the border with England. In the 18th century, Gretna Green became a famous wedding destination for young English couples because Scotland had more liberal marriage laws than England and Gretna Green was the nearest
Scottish town. Weddings were performed in the blacksmith's shop, on the anvil. Blacksmiths in Gretna Green became known as "anvil priests".
The wine spoke mostly of appley/Marsanne. It doesn't have that stony character you often get in Marsanne. It seemed pretty soft & porky on the palate until I dropped the serving temperature somewhat.
This btl came from 4 cs of shiners that our group got at half price. Not showing a whole lot of evolution towards that nutty/toasted hazelnuts character of aged Marsanne.
