Tried this wine ystrday w/ John:
1. AllisRanchWnry Roussanne Colorado (15.5%; www.AllisRanchWine.com) Sedalia/CO 2014: Med.gold color; strong appley/mango/ripe bit earthy rather fragrant almost R-like nose; soft very ripe apple/mango/guava slight alcoholic/bitter/apple peel/earthy flavor; long slightly bitter/tangy/alcpholic soft/rich/lush rather ripe/apples/mango/guava finish; reminds a bit of Savoie Roussanne w/o the tangy minerality those show; a bit on the overripe side but quite an interesting/lush Roussanne unlike any fom Calif. $15.00

1. This is the wnry of DavidRhyne in Sedalia/CO, located on the east side of the FrontRange. He gets his grapes from over on the WestSlope of CO. Specializes in Rhone varietals.
We'd had the '09 Reserve Syrah several weeks ago, that I'd bought at BoulderWineMerchant on their rec. The wine was horribly corked. When I contacted David about replacing it, no problemo. So I ordered a half case of his other wines to try as well.
This Roussanne (first one from CO I've tried) was a bit on the ripe side and atypical of Roussanne as I recognize it, but quite an interesting wine I thought. It reminded me some also of the first BonnyDoon Roussannes, the ones w/ the little plastic top hats instead of a capsule. Those turned out to be a screw-up by Randall and actually Viognier. Look forward to trying the others.
