WTN: 2 nice 2013s- Morgon and Saar

by Dale Williams » Sun Jun 21, 2015 4:54 pm

Friday- sausages, squash, and an Asian-accented slaw, with the 2013 Lapierre Morgon, Beautiful clean red fruits, herbs and spice, an earthy note to finish. Good body and texture, ample acids. B+/A-

Saturday cod braised in a chipotle/chickpea broth, braised celery with capers and olives, and salad. 2013 Zilliken Ockfener Bockstein Kabinett. Moderate sweetness, vivid acids, Granny smith and lime over wet stones. B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Dale, do you remember where you purchased the Zilliken? I would like to try some Ockfener Bockstein again--used to be one of my favorite German wines when I lived in Germany decades ago (mainly Dr. Fischer at that time.)

Thanks, David. I've ordered from this source before and will maybe put together a German Riesling order for the fall.

Jane,
I got these based on David's notes (I buy a lot of Zilliken, but usually the Rausch bottlings). He posted a note that made me check winesearcher, and it was at Winex in California, where I had a wish list of hard to find stuff (Algueira upper end bottlings, etc) but not enough to justify shipping. 6 of these made it worthwhile. But obviously East Coast makes more sense for you.
