WTN: The way the Wind Gap blows

2013 Wind Gap Wines Syrah Nellessen Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (6/17/2015)
Note: this wine was tasted during a large event. While the pour was generous enough to get a good read on the wine, it was not something I followed over several hours.

With all that out of the way, I loved this wine. It showed all the meaty, robust elements of Syrah, with deep fruit. It also had excellent framing tannins and acid balance. All in all it was completely put together, to a very surprising degree for such a young wine.

If and when you get to California again, David, we should arrange a visit. I really like their wines, and their The Barlow tasting room is very pleasant in a hipster-rustic kind of way!

I was lucky enough to taste this with Pax in person. He came out to NYC for the event. We probably spent 20 minutes chatting.

Cool! A very low key guy...I love his wines!

I really like Wind Gap stuff too. A little abnormal, and very good wine. I like wine that's abnormal. Hmm. Maybe that says something....

We drank this orange wine pinot gris from Chalk Hill (I thought I had grabbed the pinot noir) which just sang with an apple-based glaze on a pork chop!

Count me a fan as well. I recently had a WG Chardonnay that was excellent, very Chablis like.
