Which Wash. Red to open?

by Jim Grow » Mon Jun 15, 2015 3:54 pm

I am eager to open one of my Washington State red wines but would like some input into which one is most ready. Here are the wines. 2007 Andrew Will Sorella, 2007 Cadence Ciel du Cheval , 2007 Soos Creek Artist Series #7, 2007 Powers Reserve Cab.
from Champoux Vyd. Horse Heaven Hills. I am leaning towards one of the latter two. Anyone try any of these lately?

Jim, 07 here was a big, warm vintage and the wines are generally showing very well (more open and often with more maturity than you'd expect) young. I don't have personal experience with either of these three in this vintage, but based on personal experience with all of them in other vintages, I agree with your instincts and would in fact choose the Soos Creek first, the Sorella last.

The 2007 Powers Syrah Reserve was quite enjoyable in 2012 although it could be held longer (I still have two bottles.) I would guess that the Cabernet Sauvignon is also approachable now but could be aged longer.

I didn't even see the Powers! But JC you're right, as a brand it's generally the most modern/least made-for-aging of the group.

I can't believe how much better red wine tastes after it's been aerated to perfection.
