WTN: 2010 E.Guigal Cotes Du Rhone

by RichardAtkinson » Sun Jun 07, 2015 7:51 pm

Hello old friends, long time no see. Been awhile since I've posted one of these, so bear with me.

Nice value wine @ around $13.00 at Spec's. I've mostly been drinking Chianti the last few years, but we decided to give the CDR another shot as it had been quite awhile. Have been tasting the 2009 & 2010's. I think 2009 is good, but spotty as far as I can tell. The 2010's I've tasted have all been pretty good.

This one is inky purple in the glass, a bit leggy. Smoke and dark berry on the nose and palate. Nicely tannic, so great with food. Fettucine w/ grilled sausage & marinara tonight. Good match.

Paging thru these threads, I see a lot of people I recognize. I think its great that ya'll have hung together for so long.

Hi Richard. Thanks for stopping back in.

The Guigal CdR has always been a good value, though Guigal's reputation for ultra modern Côte Rotie sometimes gets painted over the whole range.

I quite liked the 2010, too, which was a nice change as over the last ten years I've pretty much given up on Guigal's CdR, a wine I once loved and bought a case of each year. They've become quite unreliable and vintages bear no resemblance to each other. Some have been clear red fruit and some have been as black and opaque as asphalt.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Oh, its some years since I last had Guigal's CdR.

It was always a releiable inexpensive enjoyable wine and I used to load up the boot of the car with cases of it from the booze hypermarkets in Calais on my way home from working in Brussels.

Vintages have been more extreme lately which would lead to more extreme bottlings of the CdR.
