A very nice Mosel Riesling, of the sort that hits all the right notes for me.
A deep, clear straw/gold colour with plenty of effervescence inside the glass...it almost looks like a bubbly cider when first poured (minus the frothing at the top of the glass).
A perfectly focused nose of diesel and slate, with crisp minerals backing it all up. Tart lemon candy comes in with plenty of verve, adding yet another layer of backup to the already intriguing package.
Electrifyingly crisp on the palate, with a zesty acidity and supportive residual sweetness that is held in good check.
Crisp, mouthfilling and lively on the finish. Really fine Mosel Riesling of the kind that I hadn't had in a while.
This went very well with a slab of smoked salmon. The wine had enough heft to stand up to the flavours of the salmon as well as to cut through it, leaving the palate refreshed.
9.5% alc./vol. $25 at Vintages.
