2013 Rhys Pinot Noir Family Farm Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, San Mateo County (5/30/2015)
Pop and pour.
Lots of red cherry and some higher toned fruit as well (cranberry/strawberry) dominates the initial aromatics. With time some spice and floral elements come out, though this remains fruit dominated. The spice comes through with more definition on the palate, and the acidity does a very good job of balancing the ripe cherry fruit. Still there is a sweetness to the fruit, but the finishing tannins cut that off. I think the richness of the fruit will be consumed over a couple of years as the tannins settle out. Overall this was a fairly easy wine to drink, at least when first opened. It clamped down a bit after an hour or so. I like the pieces, and think they will meld together quite well with just a little cellar time.
