WTN: Enfield Wine Co. Syrah in Enfield, Connecticut

2013 Enfield Wine Co. Syrah Coryelle Fields - USA, California, Sonoma County, Fort Ross - Seaview (5/25/2015)
Grilling burgers tonight, so time for some Syrah.

This was my first taste of John Lockwood's Sonoma Syrah. The very first sip I took I thought...hmm...ESJ. Then as I was getting ready to write a note in CellarTracker I saw Matt Latuchie referenced ESJ as well.

Overall this seems even a little more restrained than John's Napa Syrah, with more focus on the meat herb and mineral side of the grape. It still shows California fruit, but not in an "in your face" way. More air brings out floral tones, giving the wine a surprisingly complex range for something so young. The tannins get a little bit grippy on the finish, so some cellar time is warranted. I very much like the acid balance, as there is structure but nothing obtrusive.

Overall this looks like another outstanding effort from John Lockwood at Enfield Wine Co. I am looking forward to my remaining bottles, and John's future releases.
