WTN: K Vintners Viognier 2013

K Vintners Viognier 2013 - Art den Hoed vineyard; Yakima Valley, Washington; 28€
A rare occurrence of a US wine; ever rarer that it's not Californian. So though I'm not a huge fan of the grape I bought one to open at some opportune moment. And that was tonight when there were several others tasting so it wouldn't go to waste if it weren't to my taste. And this was a good idea since opinions were divided: my friend Esko though it was wonderful; everyone else thought it was horrid.

Why he liked it: big, bold, spicy, rich, sweet, unctuous, more solid than liquid; ripe and powerful.

Why I disliked it: the same.

There's something a bit funny going on if your stereotypical Cali Chard and a Washington Viognier smell identical. (Ok, maybe this isn't buttery, but in all other respects.)
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

If there was ever a wine I would expect you dislike, this would be high on the list.

Have to agree there David! Hopefully Otto might do better if he can track down the Tahbilk Viognier that some of us are so keen on :) .

Yup, Otto...that's pretty much my take on his Viogniers. Soft/fat/jiggly/top-heavy/silicone-laden. In this country, we have an expression for those..."DollyParton Viognier".

Please God no. I don't want to put Otto totally off of wine.

Otto, I live in Washington. And even here, those wines are on the extreme side. Like David, not a fan.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
