Consillience (Santa Barbara County) Syrah

by Brian K Miller » Fri May 08, 2015 11:48 am

Had a quick sample of this cheap 2012 Syrah last night at Vini in Davis, and I have to say I was somewhat impressed! Black pepper and meaty notes on the nose. On the palate, nice blackberry Syrah fruit, but what really stood out was a refreshing JUICYNESS in the wine that I loved! For $20, this seems like a steal!

Yup, Brian......Consilience has made some pretty good wines over the yrs. Followed 'em from the very start...I did. "Juicy" is a good descriptor of their style....big/ripe fruit and often on the alcoholic side.

Interesting, Tom!

I didn't really get alcohol (or at least too much over "the usual) for Cali) or "big fruit" per se. This was no jammy Paso syrah, which I generally cannot stand. :(

It was more fresh juicyness.
And the nose was, again, not a Paso nose, but more of a rhonish/meaty.white peppery nose.

Like I mentioned, for $20.....!!!!

This was just a tasting sample, so...

I will probably pick up a bottle to sample it more, so I will update.
