Tried these three over the last week:
1. Qupe Marsanne LosOlivosVnyd/SBC (12.5%) 1991: Deep golden/burnished bronze color w/ some browning; strong nutty/toasted hazelnuts/bit oxidized smokey/pencilly some honeyed complex nose; some tart/austere tobaccoy/pencilly/smokey nutty/toasted hazelnuts/honeyed/some oxidized complex flavor; very long nutty/toasted hazelnuts/honeyed/earthy smokey/pencilly/tobaccoy bit oxidized complex finish; definitely oxidized but in a pleasant way and not bitter or metallic like a too old white; quite an interesting old Marsanne. $13.50 (K)

Qupe LosOlivosCuvee SBC (67% Syrah/33% Mourv; TW) 1988: Med.light color w/ some bricking; classic oldQupe smokey/smoked meats/Rhonish/Fr.roast coffee slight licorice/blackberry/Syrah bit earthy/roasting chiles/pungent quite complex nose; soft slightly tangy/metallic very roasted/smoked meats/espresso/Rhonish pencilly/cedary/oldQupe slight blackberry/Syrah complex flavor w/ light/drying tannins; very long smokey/pencilly/tobaccoy/oldQupe rather Rhonish/espresso/smoked meats bit tangy/metallic finish w/ light drying/astringent tannins; a beautiful oldQupe nose but starting to dry out on the palate; still offers up some pleasure. $15.49 (KK)

Qupe Syrah BienNacidoVnyd/SBC (TW) 1988: Med.dark color w/ little bricking; beautiful classic oldQupe/very smokey/smoked meats/espresso/Rhonish/green olive some blueberry/Syrah mushroomy/truffly/earthy very complex nose; bit tart light tangy/metallic intense Rhonish/smoked meats/green olive/espresso some blueberry/Syrah/blackberry light earthy/pencilly/cedary bit smokey/oak complex flavor w/ light smooth/integrated tannins; very long/lingering smokey/espresso/roasted/Rhonish/green olive some blueberry/Syrah classic smokey/pencilly/old Qupe finish w/ light smooth/gentle tannins; a beautiful old Qupe Syrah w/ loads of roasted/smokey character and settling into the twilight of its yrs w/ no signs of oxidation. $28.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. The Syrah was ullaged down onto the mid-shoulder and there was a lot of crud under the capsule. The cork started to push in under the AhSo but eventually came out. Thought sure the wine was a goner. 'Twas not...in wonderful shape like the Qupe Syrahs often show.
