Had these not-so-thrilling wines over the weekend:
1. Cave de Saumur LesPouches AC: Saumur Blanc (100% CabFranc; MeBalP; 12%; Ideal Wines) StCyr en Bourg 2013: Light yellow color; rather stony/chalky slight floral/appley/quince rather neutral nose; fairly tart slight juicy/appley/quince rathe chalky/stony tangy/metallic/lean/crunchy flavor; med. stony/chalky/mineral rather tart/lean/austere light apple/quince tangy/metallic finish; speaks some of Loire but nothing of CabFranc; a pleasant-enough stony/chalky Chablis-wanna-be but just barely that; unthrilling. $15.00 (AV)

2. Lioco Indica MendoCnty Rose Wine (50+ yr old Carignane from Talmadge; 12.7%; www.LiocoWine.com) SantaRosa 2014: Very pale copper/salmon color; fairly fragrant juicy/cranberry/watermelon/cherry bit earthy/dusty/OV quite attractive nose; tart/lean juicy/cranberry/watermelon some tangy/metallic light earthy/dusty/OV flavor; med.long juicy/watermelon bit earthy/dusty finish; quite a pretty rose but I've had better. $20.00 (AV)

3. LiquidFarm Mourvedre Rose VogelzangVnyd/HappyCanyon/SBC (11.8%; 4 brls; www.LiquidFarm.com) Buellton 2014: Very pale copper color; rather juicy/cranberry/watermelon fragrant slight peppery/herbal pleasant nose; quite tart/lean bit eviscerated tangy/metallic light juicy/watermelon flavor. med.long tangy/tart/metallic/lean somewhat austere light peppery/earthy finish; a pleasant enough rose but rather tart/lean/eviscerated on the palate and rather overpriced. $26.00 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. LesPouches: The back label identifies this wine as 100% CabFranc, pressed off the skins immediately. Most of the references to this wine on the Net identify it as CheninBlanc, including the IdealWines Site. Because it lacked almost and fragrance, I have to say it's CabFranc. And a dull one at that.

2. Susan really likes roses, so I try to keep her supplied and try a lot of the new ones I find. These two she'd not throw out-of-bed but I found them rather unthrilling and lacking. I was especially disappointed in the LiquidFarm, given the quality of their Chards I've tried. Neither of them hold a candle to the EdmundsStJohn.
