2007 Bernardus Winery Marinus Signature Carmel Valley Red Bordeaux Blend
This is maturing nicely. Big and lush with iron-rich minerality and red gruit, and the warm-vintage 14.7% alcohol is less noticeable than in the past. But there was a touch of prune in the later pours suggesting that this is probably at peak. I'll plan to drink our remaining bottles by 2017.
2012 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir La Grive Bleue Eola - Amity Hills
Nine more months in bottle made this an even better wine than the one we had last September. Same earthy fruit with mushrooms, but it had a little tomato skin and more herbs. Best $20ish OR pinot on the market.
2012 Black Sage Vineyard Cabernet Franc Okanagan Valley VQA
Ripe blue fruit with herbs, green bell pepper, chalk and grippy tannins. Fills out nicely in the glass over several hours and is enjoyable to drink now for the tannin-tolerant like me, but a year or two of cellar time will reward.
2013 Thornhaven Gewürztraminer Okanagan Valley VQA
One of British Columbia's most interesting white wines. This producer manages to get tons of Alsatian-like complexity out of the grape but with the acidity and minerality of a good dry wine. This vintage doesn't have the weight some have had (for my tastes, a good thing), but the balance is superb and as a producer Thornhaven is still the best North American gewurz I've ever had.
2010 Manuel Mendez Monterrei Atalaya do Mar Godello
We had a case of this wine and have enjoyed it through a number of transitions. This was our last bottle, and the timing was perfect--the big peachy fruit has tapered away and revealed something more reticent if no longer identifiable as godello, but it's still pleasant and interesting. Drink up, though.
