Tried this wine last night w/ leftovers:
1. Qupe Syrah CentralCoast (TW) 1988: Med.color w/ slight bricking; beautiful/complex smokey/pencilly green olive/briney/classic old Qupe slight peppery/roasted meats/Rhonish/graphite slight blueberry/Syrah pencilly/oldRed/cedary nose; very tart/tangy/grapefruity/metallic rather smokey/pencilly/oldQupe roasted/Rhonish/green olive some briney/savory/graphite/pungent slight blueberry/Syrah flavor w/ light astringent/bitter tannins; very long very tart/grapefruity/tangy/metallic green olive/briney/savory very smokey/Rhonish/oldQupe/pencilly slight blueberry/Syrah complex finish w/ light bitey/drying tannins; a beautiful classic old Qupe Syrah nose but very tangy/grapefruity on the palate; lots of beautiful Rhonish character in the nose but not much pleasure on the palate. $9.20 (Q)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. The btl was ullaged to mid-shoulder, lots of crud around the top of the cork, and the cork a bit loose but came out w/ an AhSo. Not good signs. But the wine was far/far better than I expected. I'm beginning to think that Lindquist guy knows a bit about how to make Syrah.
