WTN: Two @ Dinner...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Apr 30, 2015 11:10 am

Tried these two the other night at dinner:
1. Massican annia NapaVlly WW (44% TocaiFriulano/36% RibollaGialla/20% Chard; 12.5%) Calistoga 2013: Light yellow color; strong citric/grapefruity/juicy/slight mango rather stony/mineral/chalky/perfumed talc slight apple blossom pleasant nose; very tart/tangy grapefruity/metallic/stony/mineral some chalky/perfumed talc rather lean/austere bit pinched flavor; med.long stony/mineral/chalky slight juicy/grapefruity/mango finish; a rather lean/mineral/stony white that will probably do better w/ more age; a bit like a Friulian white but more much more lean. $28.00

2. Ridge PetiteSirah Calif YorkCreekRanch/SpringMtn/NapaCnty (13.9%; Bttld: August 1987; Drk: 8/87-8/94-8/95: PD) 1985: Very dark color w/ no bricking; rather smokey/Ridge oak/vanilla strong PS/licorice/peppery/spicy some earthy/dusty fairly complex nose; lightly tart strong vanilla/Draper perfume/Am.oak/bourbon some licorice/peppery/earthy/PS complex flavor w/ some hard/rough tannins; long/lingering strong vanilla/Ridge/Am.oak rather earthy/dusty rough/PS/licorice/bit peppery finish w/ light hard/coarse tannins; a rather rustic/old timey Calif PS that's not show as much evolution as I expected.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I was struck by how little development the PS was showing. It was a pretty big/extracted PS in its youth and still is a pretty rough & tumble PS. It may never develop into a refined old bones at the rate it's going. Not showing any signs of oxidation or going into decline...just sorta not going anywhere fast.
