2009 Meulenhof Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (4/19/2015)
Lemon curd, apple skin, with a rich, creamy mid-palate. Only medium sweet. Plenty of persistence. Excellent value.

Whew, David....when I saw your original title and, knowing the ubiquity of Sundial Chard, I thought maybe you'd sunk so low as to be drinking a tarted-up version of Sundial Chard. Glad to see you still have some standards.

How big is this area and how many producers make wine from these grapes? You posted about another one in January and we tasted several at MOCOOL 2 years ago. http://forums.wineloverspage.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=48711&p=400079

The vineyard is about 40 hectares. There are over 100 owners, but I think a great many send to co-ops/makers of generic wines.

It is similar to Burgundy, where a given producer may own multiple acres/hectares, or just a few rows of vines.

I own Wehlener Sonnenuhr Rieslings from 7 different producers, and can think of at least 5 more off the top of my head.

Hi Howie,
You might find the following link interesting, it discusses a process known as “reorganization”

Come on Victor...man up and call it what it is...flurbereinigung...

Some interesting stories from the rebuilding and replanting of the sites. J. J. Prum lost some great land to Selbach-Oster when they re-did the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr. Meulenhof managed to keep a small parcel of the Erdener Treppchen from being ripped up and re-done. It is now the source of their Alte-Reben bottlings.

Of course flurbereinigung is a walk in the park compared to what is happening with the new bridge over the Mosel.
