Bruce,

I didn't know that Jadot made a white Bourgogne. Where did they find it? Chain store, or specialty store if you happen to know?

I bought the Jadot white at the LCBO here in Ontario Sam. Tried it last night and it was pretty good for $19.95 Canadian. Will post WTN soon.

Let's see:

2005 J. J. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese Gold Kap
2005 Robert Weil Kiedricher Grafenberg Riesling Spatlese
Taylor-Fladgate 20 Year Old Tawny Port
1996 Lasalle Cuvee Angelique Champagne (bought with a gift certificate)
2003 Chateau Pavie

And Laura received:

Taylor Fladgate 30 Year Old Tawny Port
1983 Fonseca Vintage Port
(2) 1988 Pommery Cuvee Louise Champagne
(2) 1996 Taittinger Comptes de Champagne
(2) 1995 Krug

Not a bad haul...

The only wine I received was a bottle of Lange 2005 Willamette Valley Reserve Pinot Noir from my bro-in-law who lives in Portland, OR. But the one gift that has me atwitter....my wife ordered me 5 Norton vines from Double A vineyards. They will be delivered in mid-March giving me plenty of time to build the trellis system. 8)

David, when are you coming down to DC? Is Laura coming with you? Are you bringing the port and champagne? :D Let me know the answers to at least the first two questions so we can plan something. I'm glad Santa was so nice to you. Happy New Year!

Not sure where you are located, but Double A doesm't deliver to me until early May. Rule of thumb - 1 gallon per vine, in a few years you will be able to fill a 5-gallon carboy. In the Spring of '05 I planted about 70 vines in my back yard - all hybrids - Chambourcin, Cayuga, Traminette, and Vignoles. I also tried planting Vidal and Leon Millot from cuttings, but they didn't take too well. Good Luck Alan!

Enjoyed this thread and wondered about the bust of the Xmas period!! I opened the Taylor Fladgate `00 LBV whilst visiting friends and could find nothing to wow about. Very poor acidic finish, lacking in fruit and structure. Guess will have to retaste this weekend.

Thanks for the encouragement, Howie.

BTW - I live way down south in Bama (Birmingham, AL to be exact). I already have 10 labrusca vines (Concord, Niagara, Catawba) that should start producing this year. I plan to use these 10 vines to produce a white blend (including the Concord, using the free-run juice.) I planted these vines without really doing any investigation on what grapes would do well in our hot/humid summers here. The vines seem to tolerate the heat ok, but I have some concern about the quality of grapes that they will produce here when low temp in the summertime doesn’t drop below 75 deg.

If I had known then, what I know now, I would have planted all Norton for red and Chardonal for white. There a few small wineries here in the state that seem to do well with these varieties. Both seem to have a tolerance (or in the Norton case, immunity) to Pierce’s Disease which is the limiting factor here in the southeastern US. Not sure if my labrusca vines have that tolerance.

Thanks Bruce. I looked at our local store yesterday and they do have the Jadot Chardonnay here, and have had for some time. I don't know what I was thinking. It's about $14 USD locally. I will give it a try.

Another red hybrid that might do well in your area is Chambourcin, which is grown in VA, MD and OZ. I think I'm pushing the limits by trying it in my area. Here's are a few links:

Two fancy wine bottle stoppers. Mainly I received giftcards to replenish my wardrobe. Family know I'm well stocked on wines but could use a fashion boost now and then.

You must have been really bad this year.

I'd say the Buekers did very well! I love the ten and twenty year tawny Ports although Cockburn, Sandeman and Niepoort are usually my faves.

Yeah, not a bad Christmas.

I would really like to try other producer's tawnies, but all I ever see in my market is Taylor and Fonseca. I've had Graham's 30 year old once and it was great.

OK, you`re on Bruce. Thanks for the PM, I have a Monte picked out already but could not find the Terra d`Aligi. I searched via google, you seem to have a good one there. Did you get a heads up Bruce??
