Interesting Broc Wines! (White Zinfandel)

by Brian K Miller » Wed Apr 01, 2015 9:56 pm

Broc Cellars Spring Allocation. Some quick comments!

Highlights: White Zinfandel. From the two Sonoma Valley vineyards that are sourced for Vine Star. Fascinating wine. Not a "rose" in character, really. Fruity, light, spritzy. What is unusual is the definitive HONEY notes in the wine.

Picpoul-Lemon....All about the lemon. Very refreshing!

Valdigue-Solano County Green Valley! I had actually ridden my bicycle right by this vineyard the day before!

The really interesting highlight to me was a wine not yet released: A sparkling Cabernet Franc! Beautiful, fresh sparkling character with a definite cab franc varietal freshness. Delicious stuff

Only a quick taste, but it had vivacious bubbles and true blue Cabernet Franc varietal character! Chris does Cab Franc very well, so...

We polished off my bottle of white zinfandel last night, and it was a big hit. Bone dry...not sweet, but definitely some lovely strawberry and peach????!!!!! notes. Very refreshing spring wine, despite the weird non-spring weather yesterday*.

* (I was five miles up Mount Veeder Road past the Hess Collection turnoff on my bicycle when the weather turned...badly. That was a cold cold wet ride downhill into Napa. :?
