France: proposal for new crack-down on wine consumption.

by Tim York » Fri Mar 27, 2015 6:10 am

Here for French speakers is a link to an article about these toxic proposals http://www.larvf.com/,vins-primeur-offe ... 360205.asp . Apologies but it would take me an age to do a translation.

One gem is the idea of blocking websites dealing with drink except to drink professionals and making any posting and blogging about drink an offence  . Would that mean that foreign sites like WLDG will be blocked and that posting to them will be an offence if one manages to get through?

Other proposals are to increase taxes on booze and to beef up the health warning on labels to say bluntly that wine consumption is dangerous.

I hope that there will be a vigorous response from the wine trade.

( As a NWR aside, this minister, Marisol Touraine, has already got the whole medical profession demonstrating and striking, because of a draft law which adds several extra notches in the direction of turning medical professionals into civil servants on the model of the British National Health Service. At present, IMO, the French health care system is a good compromise between public and private enterprise, which allows people to be pretty fully insured without exclusion of pre-existing conditions as well as reasonable freedom of choice of doctor.)
