WTN: d'A Planella Montsant '11...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Fri Mar 13, 2015 9:59 am

Cracked this last night from my latest IlConsorzio shipment from Prima:
1. d'A Planella Dd'O: Montsant (PlanellaVnyd; 14.5%; Carinyena/Garnatxa/Syrah; 11 mo. in Fr. & Am. oak; www.cellersjoandanguera.com/) Joan d'Anguera/Darmos 2011: Very dark/black color; very intense ripe/boysenberry/blackberry/black cherry/Syrah strong toasty/oak slight peppery huge fruit nose; soft/lush/very ripe huge fruit/boysenberry/blackberry/Grenache/black cherry cola strong toasty/charred/oak overripe/over-the-top flavor w/ light/soft/ripe tannins; very long very ripe/overripe boysenberry/blackberry/Syrah strong charred/oak rather late-harvesty finish w/ soft/ripe tannins; this is how they would make a Garretson or Saxum in Taragonna if they could; gets rather tiring on the palate after the first glass; very reasonably priced if you like that style; should play well in Monktown. $17.60 (Prima IlC)

Wasn't bloody awful, Brian. Just a style that doesn't appeal to me &
gets a bit tiring after the first glass.
