The ten-year old Port is a shimmering amber color whereas the twenty-year old Tawny is a pretty but cloudy amber color with a denser appearance. The nose on the two glasses is similar with the twenty-year old a little heavier with the wood scent and nuttiness. The older Port also has flavors of toffee caramel, dried fruits and nuts. I like it--it is not particularly sweet and I prefer Tawny Ports on the dry side. It also didn't seem overly hot on the palate or throat. It was a very nice match with almond cake and also with pecans and walnuts and mixed dried fruit. I also like Tawny Ports with traditional crème brulee or pumpkin crème brulee or pecan pie and perhaps with flan/crème caramel (I haven't tried that pairing yet.) I would consider buying the twenty-year Tawny again but may prefer other ten-year Tawny Ports (Cockburn or Sandeman) to the ten-year Taylor Fladgate.

The Taylor Fladgate 20 is the preferred Tawny in our hose, mainly because it's my wife's favorite!
