Tried this wine from my VSP shipment tonight:
1. DryCreekVnyd SauvBlanc Taylor'sVnyd/DCV (MusqueClone; 14.1%; www.DryCreekVineyard.com) 2013: Med.light yellow color; strong lemony/melony/floral/spicy quite perfumed/aromatic light pencilly/oak some floral/peach blossom/almost R-like/floral nose; slightly tart/tangy/mineral/steely light pencilly/vanilla/oak strong lemony/melony/spicy/floral fairly rich/lush slight stony beautiful flavor; very long/lingering lemony/melony/spicy/perfumed some floral/muscatty/R-like/peach blossom slight stony/mineral finish; rather atypical of SauvBlamc and almost like a Semillon/R blend; best Musque yet from DCV; very fairly priced at $20.00 (VSP)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I've always been a fan of DCV's SauvBlancs and, particularly, their SauvMusque. It doesn't have the usual herbal/grassy/cat pee character of most SauvBlancs. In fact, it is almost Chard like in its character. Probably the best DCV SauvBlanc yet and maybe the best SauvMusque I've ever had. Terrific wine.

2. MusqueClone: This was a clone imported from Bdx about 1972 by the FPS folks. DougMeador was growing SauvBlanc at his VentanaVnyd in MontereyCnty but found the wines were pretty herbaceous/weedy in character. He saw this Musque clone lurking on the FPS list of available grapevines, took a flyer on it, and was delighted w/ the quality of the resulting wine. It is the 2'nd most planted SB clone in Calif, yet still only constitutes about 2% of the SB acreage in Calif.
