WTN: 2010 Undurraga Carignan TH Maule , Chile.
Good natural cork, 14,5% alc, decant one hour, L 12297, 100 % Carignan, $28 Cdn. Cellared for over a year, TH is Terroir Hunter! Used French oak for 16 months. Dry-farmed, 50-year-old vineyard in
Loncomilla district.
Deep ruby purple color. Inviting nose of spice, black fruits, cherry violets. "Think blackberries" from across the table.
Initial entry thought is big wine here, "not even like the Chinon we had last night" from fellow taster frowning. Thought rather extracted, not very easy to drink so put bottle aside after one glass. The tannins were nicely integrated however.
Day 2 kinda turn around. Riper fruit on the long finish, spice, better balance, "more harmonious". Not my fave wine of the year so far but can see the appeal for many folks out there.
