Where's The Greek Stuff in Calif????

by TomHill » Fri Feb 13, 2015 2:17 pm

We had this week a Greek Malagousia that I liked quite a lot. Over the last few yrs, I've tried quite a few whites (particularly) and reds that have been quite good to impressive.
We'ce seen a growing interest in Iberian varieties in Calif. So where's the Greek stuff?? The FPS has a fair number of Greek varieties (not Malagousia) available, but I've not seen any Calif varietals from them.
Peter & Becky Work would be an obvious choice to pursue Greek varietals. They own/operate a resort on an island in Greece and vacation there often. With global warming, the Pacific should be lapping on the edges of Ampelos any day now.
I've had a few Greek Retsina's that I've rather liked...from DarrellCorti. Given my penchant for weird stuff..not too surprising. I'd love to see a retsina made in Calif. MattRorick or BryanHarrington...you be listening?? I'd, of course, be the first to try one...so's I could brag down the road from now..."Followed 'em from the very start". :D

So...where is the Greek stuff in Calif. Curious minds & all that.

I dunno. What the heck, most everything about wine is Greek to me!
