Cracked open a bottle of the Bottega Vinaia Teroldego Rotaliano 2006 (yes, they had the 2006 in stock, probably because it's not the fastest turning inventory item) for my college wine class.
It was one of the favorites from a wide ranging and quality-packed selection, and one student immediately went out to buy several bottles for herself.
The Teroldego was in a perfect drinking window, soft, fruity, slightly spicy and fully resolved. No tannin bite, no roughness, impressive in its smooth, seamless delivery. It has that special magic I so often find in northern Italian wines: it's not a blockbuster, jump-out-of-your-glass showstealer but a quietly perfect and harmonious glass of wine.
